Your furnace and air conditioner filters trap airborne allergens and dust so you breathe clean air. These filters need changing every few months while you’re using the furnace or air conditioning. The reason: Tiny particles of dirt pulled into the system from the air can hurt your furnace, air conditioning coil and fan. Changing filters regularly also can lower utility bills by as much as $100 a year, since dirty filters force HVAC systems to run harder and use more energy.
Changing filters is simple. Use your owner’s manual to find your system’s filter and remove it. Pay attention to the markings on the filter indicating which side must face the furnace so you will put the new one in correctly.
Inspecting the filter monthly will enable you to see when dirt has built up and it needs to be changed. Temp Heating & Cooling Xtreme can supply you with the proper filter size and MERV rating you require. If you choose to replace them yourself, it is well advised to shut of the furnace disconnect switch while doing so, as not to get any dust into the blower section and A/C coil.
